Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

Love kumquat, back in China, we eat the whole thing, and its super sweet with a little bit sour inner flesh of course. I haven’t seen them anywhere in Melbourne. It is said good for dry cough.

There’s an old homestead of the author Marjorie Keenan Rawlings not far from me. She had a small orange grove, but near the house is an old kumquat tree. The results of 100 years of cross pollinating has made that huge kumquat tree to be completely sweet and delicious.Far better than any isolated kumquat I’ve ever had.
