Deer Hunting (TRACKING) the Benoit Way

Deer Hunting (TRACKING) the Benoit Way

Tracking a buck on snow in the big woods is a true pursuit of a whitetail deer. It is not a manufactured hunting scenario. There are no food plots or shoot shacks. There’s no time for shooting sticks or spotting scopes. These deer spend their lives avoiding human contact in the mountains and most remote tracts of forest available. A track often leads to the flash of a buck bounding off through the brush and the only shot opportunity is on the fly. I always prefer to take the life of a buck with one well placed shot. I don’t promote marginal shots but if I can hit the deer on snow, I can kill the deer. It’s called tracking. Bare ground is a different story, I don’t shoot this way on bare ground. In this video I ran into Lanny Benoit, famous deer tracker and son of Larry Benoit. #deertracking #tracking #themainewoods

Hey man I’ve really enjoyed your channel and the videos you produced. Hunting is such an awesome passion. I’m greatly encouraged by your Bible verse at the end. I’m going through the book of Jeremiah right now. Boy does it relate to this generation and all that is taking place. Only Jesus Christ can save, not our own efforts..thank God for His grace. God bless brother.

Lanny Benoit. Legends! My father in law was good friends with them. He was a taxidermist in Stowe. Great videos.

Great video! What make grunt call are you using?

  14. johnny on November 12, 2021 at 10:06 am

What camera do you use? Fantatic footage. I couldn’t see the deer but did see the moose at 1.52. Thanks!

  15. n j on November 12, 2021 at 10:07 am

Buck for buck and pound for pound, Lanny was the best Benoit at deer hunting. No disrespect to Larry or Lane " slammer" , or Shane. But the numbers are hard to argue.

  17. EastTexan on November 12, 2021 at 10:09 am

well, you had your chances. love your choice of rifle. hard to beat it in the field for that type of hunting.

  18. Scott Pulver on November 12, 2021 at 10:10 am

So very happy I have two Larry Benoit knives. An original and a special edition. The special edition knife was special because my wife and I sat with Mr. Benoit for over 3hrs talking. Hunt on. Be safe! KSP

  19. Casey Hepler on November 12, 2021 at 10:11 am

I wondered If you saw the moose run in the video?

  20. James Walters on November 12, 2021 at 10:13 am

Over the shoulder rig is cool. I will bet it will be adopted by more filmers.

Let me start out by saying that what is a ethical shot for you may not be for me. An ethical shot is a high percentage shot taken that kills a deer quickly and humanly. I have hunted for 50 years and killed quite a few deer. My goal is to shoot once at a deer and kill it quickly. Whether there is snow or not has nothing to do with the shots I take, sure I can track a wounded deer in snow but that is not what I want to do. I typically hunt on snow but not always. After hunting many years in Maine, NH and now the western states. I would not have taken any of those shots and I certainly would not be putting that on the internet for the non-hunters to take pot shots at.

I can’t imagine having Lanny Benoit roll up to me while I was hunting and start talking. I’d like to know how many big bucks have fell to that man’s trigger finger. Great video

  23. John Oblak on November 12, 2021 at 10:15 am

Im hesitant to mention because you are skilled in your craft but i beleive some binos on a tight bino buddy harness to your chest, not a loop or strap would help you greatly see the bedded buck when you know you are close. You can keep your right hand on the gun and if you cant find him with ur left hand grab the binos and search, then u can let go of the binos and the bino buddy makes the binos go back to your sternum area and the left hand goes to the gun for the shot. Just my 2 cents but I have watched numerous of your vids and i think this could help

  24. Brett Wood on November 12, 2021 at 10:17 am

The tracking part was interesting but the shooting multiple times at a running deer a poor choice. Wounding an animal is not the point of hunting.

  25. Harold Johnson on November 12, 2021 at 10:18 am

The Benoits. Best in the buissness

  41. Carson Matthews on November 12, 2021 at 10:35 am

Thanks for sharing your video as always I really enjoyed you taking the time to teach as you hunt. The Lord blessed me with a buck on Thanksgiving morning so I’m thankful. I was wondering if you would mind giving me an idea for a GPS something not to difficulty to figure out. thanks again

  42. Jason Farley on November 12, 2021 at 10:36 am

The dumbest hunting video I’ve ever watched, that’s not how you kill big deer folks. Follow them thru snow for three days and throw up random shots. Just dumb

  43. The Maine Woods on November 12, 2021 at 10:36 am

I’d appreciate if someone can share this with Lanny for me.

  44. Jeddia Jones on November 12, 2021 at 10:37 am
