Flat caps have had a renaissance in recent years, and for good reason. Not only are they warm in the winter, they’re classicly stylish and nearly any well-dressed man of any age can pull one off. Unlike the bolder fedora, make a softer statement that is easier and less intimidating to pair with a range of fall, winter and spring outfits.

05:10 How to Buy a Flat Cap
It’s important that it fits comfortably on your head.
The flat cap was originally made from tweed by the wool fabrics or sometimes even cotton and that reason you should stick with those materials. In my opinion, tweed is really the best material because it has the depth of color, it keeps you warm, it’s hard wearing, and it’s just a wonderful fabric. To learn more about tweed, please check out our in-depth tweed guide, here.
Sometimes, I’ve also seen denim caps or maybe leather caps or faux leather ones. I personally don’t think it’s a very advantageous look and I’d rather stick with the classic stuff. For that same reason, I stay away from patchwork flat hats or multi-pattern caps because they’re simply too loud. Just like a bold red or really loud blue and green hat. The good thing about tweed is usually it comes in more subdued colors that suit the fall-winter season. At the same time, the color composition of the fabric is comprised of a range of different ones so it’s very easy to combine it with other items in your wardrobe even though they don’t match and contrast. So whenever you find flat caps that are either too bold or come in small, medium, and large, I suggest you skip them unless you know that they will fit you and that you’ll like to wear them and they won’t just be a fashion item that you have to throw away after a season. if you want to learn more about flat caps and what brands you might want to buy please check out our full guide on the website here.
Last but not least, if you think a flat cap makes you look dated jus t browse the Internet and look for pictures of David Beckham or people like Brad Pitt which are obviously mainstream media celebrities and they can still pull it off and do so on a regular basis.

Flat cap or news boy cap look good with a coat
It’s a hat you will never see me wear I just don’t like them much prefer my poet fedora and optimo Panama hats .the flat cap to me looks like a dustbin lid not my style at all.
I know it’s not very "styilish" but I have the flat cap that has so called "ears", so in winter I’ll fold them down. In our climate it still looks better than alternative (ski hat).
Too bad you miss one of the most useful flat cap around: the waxed cloth one, like the one Barbour sells. I they are super useful as they still look good, but if you get in serious weather, they’ll keep you dry.
Put blades on it
I have a black linen flat cap from Hanna, and it was the first hat ever to fit my (fairly large) head. I’m so happy with it.
The hat can be pulled off by only certain badasses.. not fairy pocodot clown’s with pink and oatmeal colors lol
In soviet times flat cap was almost mandatory cause Lenin wore a flat cap…
The video focused on hats where cooler temperatures are prevekant. What style of hats for climates that are warmer during winter and hot during summer?

I personally think you don’t use your colors very wise. And your idea of backwards flat caps is outdated. Personally not my style but you do you bud

Sven pls be careful not to reference England when what you mean is Britain or UK this will avoid offence to the Scots, Welsh and Irish. Enjoying your views and some useful tips thankyou.
Very good overview and, I must say, a very good looking blue wide lapel overcoat.
Excuse me but your personal aesthetic/preference is not the definition of what is correct. I have duckbill flatcaps in linen, and one woven in the same material used for Panama hats that I wear in the summer. I have thinning hair and find wearing a cap necessary to prevent sunburn.
Personally I like the patchwork look cuz it looks homemade but og design looks cool too
You look very cute in a flat cap
A newsboy cap (8-panelled) was the very 1st cap I ever sewed: that was about 10 years ago. I’ve made several since then. I wear one whenever I go out. (Yes, that’s one I sewed in my profile pic) the single panel with snap is considered a "driver’s cap" some 8-panelled caps can also have a snap, they have a different name (that I can’t think of right now) Whether "en vogue" or not, I like how they look on me.
Why are you Wearing so many different Colors in one Outfit?
Now thats a Cap

Christy’s Bates and Lock & Co make excellent hats.

I’ve never seen people with hair wear hats like this

I recently received a newsboy-styled cap from my aunt. It was my grandfather’s who has been passed away for 20 years or so. I own a few besides this and am always on the hunt for more.
