HOW TO HUNT IN ALASKA —2020 GEAR LIST

It’s time to head off into the mountains for the next 6 weeks. Hunting season is underway and in this video I unload my pack and show you what I bring for a 10 day Dall Sheep Hunt in Alaska. Learning how to hunt in Alaska starts with bringing the right pieces of gear.

I’ve been hunting sheep in Alaska since the 1990s. We have had problems with the steripen in murky glacial water, so went back to drops or filter (Katdyn base camp).
I’m old school and still use my Dana Designs pack I bought in the early 1990s.
One important thing I see you practice but did not mention….electrical tape on the muzzle to protect that crown!
I also highly recommend trekking poles, and a lightweight tarp for glassing in the rain/wind, for keeping the quarters clean while butchering, and as an emergency shelter.
I use old 1-liter soda bottles to carry water and one nalgene bottle that can contain heated water. Good point…you will get wet either sweat or rain.
I also like Grundens or Helly Hansen so no catastrophic failure in rain/wind.

I use a stock pack I purchased from midwayUSA.com for holding ammo/tag/knife and also a good cheek weld…cost $20 on sale.
