Hunting Gear Mechanism
The rudder is turned by the actuating mechanism according to the helm order. The helm order is transmitted by a telemotor transmitter located at the bridge. The telemotor receiver in the steering compartment operates the hydraulic pump through a pump control unit.
The position of the rudder has to be fed back to the actuating controls to stop the turning of rudder as it reaches the required angle. This can be achieved by mechanical or electrical means.
Hunting gear mechanism is a mechanical feedback system, which transmits the rudder position and puts the pump off stroke once the rudder reaches the required angle.
The following media explains about the Hunting Gear
In electrical feedback system, the position of the rudder is fed back to the control system as electrical signals. This in turn stops the rudder actuating mechanism as the rudder reaches the required angle.
