I’d think a Y branch with a pointed end, cut and shaped from material found in the woods would be a simpler easier shooting stick than the 3 sided one you have. Yours seems bulky and a bit cantankerous to set up. Just an observation.

Look front then all around; always watchful for the French and Indians.

I miss Missouri, but not the humidity. Would hate to wear all that stuff in the old days.

Everything looks perfect except the bullet board.

  13. Mark Taylor on September 19, 2021 at 11:09 pm

Nice work on your gear. Your leather work is very nice and seems period correct. I’m sure many folks in the 18th century made their own and there were all varieties. Keep up the nice work.

Your brother did one hell of a good job on that rifle!

  17. Meaningless Endeavors on September 19, 2021 at 11:23 pm

Beautiful rifle. Your brother should consider making and selling those long guns.

AppalachianManCave, thanks, and I highly recommend the shooting sticks for new flintlock hunters such as myself, to get a rock solid shot .

111 thumbs up 2 thumbs down. Why would someone give this video a thumbs down? Its well made, informative, and entertaining. Some people just HAVE to put others down….to make themselves feel better?
When I was growing up in the early 60s, we were taught if you can’t say something nice, Keep your big gob shut.
Excellent video. I have a Brown Bess and want to put together an 18th Century kit. You gave me some good ideas! Keep up the great work, ignore the naysayers.

Do you know why some of the broad-brimmed hats were turned up at the rear? You’d think that would let the elements down the back of your neck. Was there some practical reason for it, or just personal taste?

  24. frederic baudry on September 19, 2021 at 11:39 pm

Very good hunting kit, beautiful fusil de chasse also. Best regards from france.

At 1:14 I see the leg ties or garters some would call them. Where can I get the same pair or what are they made of ? I love the red like those but not having any luck finding a pair period correct for 18th century. Thanks God bless!!!

  26. ECHO_94 on September 19, 2021 at 11:39 pm

Great Video Josh, The sticks for turkey is a great tip.
I use something similar and do not go to the turkey woods without it.

Hey Josh, great vids! Keep getting out there. Been playing the game for awhile, and pleased to see new blood finding the call of the mountains…
