Strategies for BOWHUNTING on the Ground/ The Old School Way

Bowhunting on the Ground can be an
effective way to deer hunt
when the conditions are right.
Bowhunting on the Ground with no
pop up blind is how most of us “Older guys”
Learned how to bowhunt.
I’ve been successful at hunting deer
Eye to Eye level and continue to hunt
a few days of the early season on the ground every
year. Here’s some things you may want to remember
the next time you need to set up quickly on the ground
or don’t have a pop up blind with you.

I have wanted traditional camo for years now, and just inherited some from my grandfather who passed away. Can’t wait to shoot a deer, from the ground, with the old trad bow he gave me just before he passed away, while in the camo he wore when he was my age!

I love bow hunting from the ground. I prefer a pop up. But I would rather bow hunt from ground than in a tree.

no you are not better off in a tree stand. That is a myth that has been perpetuated through the years. Supported by big name brands that put out false information in the advertisement main stream. The Native Americans did it for ages without any tree stands. Bowhunting on the ground is for the true hunter.

Being 10 yards from a deer 15 feet up a tree or eye level that’s kinda a whole different level of badass

I went bow hunting for the first time and tagged my first buck using the ground method a few weeks ago. I don’t have the patience for a bind or stand.

Well,I agree to find a wide tree anyway. But I put my back against it. I also use face net and gloves. I also try find a tree with low hanging limbs to help with the concealment. Biggest lesson I learned hard way, be still, do not move. It takes a lot of discipline to keep your head forward and move your eyes not your body. I also agree with you you can be successful with bow, muzzleloader or modern gun. I’ve had success with all three all during the year…

Great video, I take more deer from the ground in than a tree. Pushing back in a bush and being still with a ghille suit is the best or a creek bank

  22. mdcoyne on July 6, 2021 at 8:45 pm

Want to emphasize that when hunting the middle ground trails that you’re on constant ready. The deer will come in and be gone before you know it even when on a slow walk.

This is great. I hunt public land and being on the ground is the most convenient method. Gotta find those trails.

Thanks for sharing the knowledge! I’ve never hunted and don’t know any hunters, but your video is like having a buddy show me the ropes. I’ve got a bow and have been practicing, now I just have to do all the other stuff! heh! Thanks again!
