I Have A STUPID Amount Of Gear! My Gear Storage!
I’ve been asked many times to share how I organize all of my backpacking gear. This is a quick run through of my gear storage and how it’s organized into categories and sections.

Looking forward to seeing your gear
Love the breakdown of your storage ideas!! I think you need a bigger boat?
I went through my crates yesterday in the spare bedroom and thought, I’ve got way too many sleeping bags.. I should get rid of some. Then I laughed at the absurdity of that and went about my day.
Nice and organized. Just how I like it!
backpacking is a niche hobby that actively encourages hoarding
Awesome setup. I have similar quantity of gear but it’s spread out and have trouble finding what I need. I see your bins don’t have labels——mainly because they’re mostly transparent? FYI, I had stacks of MREs lying around and somehow mice entered the garage and had a feast! Good informative video buddy!
Does it also matter in the way you store your tent as the way you store your sleeping bag? I mean, will you ruin its fabric if you keep your tent in its stuff sack for a long period of time? Pardon my english.
I feel your pain!!! 🙂 How have you financed/afford all of these items? Were a lot given/comped? Love to know… Thanks!
This reminds me i need to clean all of my gear and make it look nice…yeah thatll happen one day
Next gear storage video: "Welcome to the Warehouse."
P.s. I’m a high school senior looking at colleges in Utah.
And my wife thinks I have a lot of gear. Impressive.
I had to put my Mountain Houses in a tub. A mouse got in my closet got up on the third shelf up, and chewed holes in two of them.
The cost of his gear is larger than the GDP of most countries.
I use a similar rack+bins setup. I find having a "current" bin makes it much easier to pack and unpack for a trip. The bulk of my stuff stays the same but then I can swap out any bits that need adjusting based on the current conditions. Saves a lot of mental effort since I’m not chasing down everything each time.
You know you hit peak backpacking youtuber when you do a gear review of the stuff you use to store all the gear that you have tested and reviewed.
Thanks for sharing Devin! Thumbs up to the vid.
You said in a schill brothers podcast that you worked in a college as a professor. I’m curious to what school that is?
Thanks for sharing. My goal for the winter is to purge and organize. You’ve given me hope.
Also, not backpacking related, but what models were those family camping tents? I’m likely going to need to replace mine soon.
Devin Nice setup thanks for sharing
Nice organization. What sizes are your bins?
Finnnaallly!!! ;)… btw have u seen miyagi on the trails organizing video? He talks and shows how he stores his down quilts and sleeping bags. Check it out
If you have too much I’m willing to take some off your hands 🙂
Your fishing gear category – do you have any Hobo Fishing poles/lines, etc.; something that is small, light, & capable of catching fish with a hook, something that is hand-held, something that can easily fit in a pant pocket or backpack?
How did you afford all this?!??
Either you have money to burn, or contacts in the industry.
7:20 amusing to see how embarrassed you get to mention how many tents you have…
Seriously
Would you like to do a video about overbuying, a problem some of us have ?
and then ideas of how to move stuff and sell it
Organized just means… you know where it is haha! I have a fraction of the things but I have a mostly empty basement with a ping pong table…. so most everything ends up on that!! It WAS organized at one time in a 4-drawer plastic cabinet thing. Next time I want to play pong it’ll get back in there! Fun video and I’m glad to see some of the family camping gear too!
How to sever the attachment to most of it & get rid of all that stuff while recouping a few buck$ is the video I need to see. Anybody still interested in Svea 123 white gas stoves & ‘mostly’ complete Tourister cook kits etc;?
Let me know if you want to part with anything. Beginner backpacker here but I know I’m a tarp guy for sure.
