Medical Doctor Prescribes Growing a Garden to Prevent & Treat Disease
John from http://www.growingyourgreens.com/ visits Dr. Jeff Pierce to share with you his vegetable garden, and how this medical doctor prescribes growing a garden & eating plants to prevent and treat disease using Lifestyle Medicine to get some of his patients off their prescription drugs.
In this episode, you will learn about some of the healthiest foods that Dr. Jeff grows and how he grows food over a concrete driveway in pots, in a raised bed, and grows fruit trees where there was a former concrete slab.
First, you will learn what Dr. Jeff is growing in his front yard, which includes some fruit trees that are quite nutritious and can supply your body with high levels of antioxidants and phytonutrients.
Next, John will take you to the backyard where you will discover how Dr. Jeff is growing over a pre-existing concrete slab driveway by growing in mostly 15-gallon pots and other size pots so he can maximize the food he is growing on his small residential lot.
You will learn about some of the healthiest crops that Dr. Jeff grows that can have amazing health benefits that may help to prevent and reverse disease in your body, which includes things like herbs, flowers, greens, and fruits.
You will learn more about one of the most antioxidant-rich flowers that you only need to plant once, and every spring will reward you with flowers that can help support your liver, contain high levels of antioxidants, and is rich in beneficial fiber to feed your microbiome.
You will discover how herbs can be a rich source of bioactive compounds and that each part of plants may contain different phytochemicals. You will learn that you need to eat the correct amount of each plant to maximize its benefit.
You will discover how greens should make up a good portion of your diet and how they contain protein and are one of the easiest vegetables you can grow in your garden since you only need to get the leaves to form, and not develop into a fruit.
You will learn about the power of purple seeded grapes and why table grapes are not as nutritious as wine grapes that contain the seeds. You will also discover the best way to process grapes to get the most benefit
You will discover the benefits you can get by growing a diversity of fruits and vegetables and all have a unique subset of nutrients that can benefit you.
You will learn how to keep a jaboticaba fruit tree alive in Northern California and how a moringa tree can help to keep you young and can kill cancer cells.
You will discover the most valuable heirloom bean you can grow that will come back year after year in your garden and provide fresh beans to eat but also very decorative beans you can eat.

Dr. Sebi pioneered this way of living healthy
AMA sold out to big pharma back in the 30’s and turned natural remedies used for thousands of years into quackery. Now, we are awakening to the real quacks (Dr. Fauci).
How do you make that rosemary juice? Do you add the herbs to water?!
I find I can grow parsley year round without protection in southern New England…other herbs are hit or miss and I grow lettuce under lights…it’s not alot but it’s something. I’ve been plant based for 12 years..pushing 70…no meds just vitamins.

My sister was recently diagnosed with cancer in her lungs. The doctor had told her that her cancer was from the foods and her place of work. Now I just wanted to asked if there’s some kind of plants that you could recommend for her to eat more.
Great video

I just ate a Big Mack and found a plastic piece stuck in my teeth.
Brilliant content John, and thanks Dr. P for providing great insight on living a healthy life.
Thanks John, I really enjoyed the conversation with Dr. Pierce.
Jeff Pierce – my favorite guitar player
Excellent video. I will be honest, my first thought was that Dr. Jeff might be one of a long line of more radical cultish type "plant based" guru…yes, they do exist and they don’t seem credible to me. However, I trust John and I watched the entire conversation and I am impressed! Thanks so much for the information, for the balanced approach, for the truth about how we don’t all want to jump ALL IN to any one kind of lifestyle choice, but doing one thing is a great start. I told my doctor 11 years ago that we had decided to stop eating meat and she shrugged her shoulders and said, "OH..good luck with that!" and a recent doctor told me to lose weight (because they all do) and I asked if he had nutrition advice. He recommended a complicated App to use and I said I wasn’t interested in that, but did have any ideas about how food could help and he said, just lose the weight. I asked SPECIFICALLY, "So, you don’t care if I just basically starve myself to lose the weight?" and his answer, "The objective is to get the weight off." Very disappointing.
I need to eat better and grow year round..yep…

I’m afraid of thistles so I don’t grow artichoke.
10:29 – I’d imagine an alternative to rain water would be to have some sort of cistern you could fill with city/chlorinated water and let the chlorine evaporate off. That’s if your city has chlorine levels over .2mg/L. I really don’t think levels of .2mg/L harms the life in your soil significantly. My gardens have always thrived with city water. Although, out of curiosity, next year I think I’ll do a study plot where only rain water will be used.
