Morels #2: Hunting Tips and Etiquette
Ohio State Park Naturalist Erin Shaw tells you when to start hunting for morels, what to expect on a hunt, what you’ll need to take on your hunt and why camping and morel hunts go great together.
People should not be using plastic bags. You stop how the spores travel and spread, greatly diminishing how many will come up in the years to come. Morels have been declining rapidly in recent years and plastic bags used by hunters are a major contributor. Use mesh bags, laundry (delicates) bags or baskets.
Thank y’all for this! 🙂
My family and I have been interested in learning to forage for morels and I’m glad to see the DNR is putting material out on this subject!
Thanks also for posting below some of the parks that have historically been open to foraging for them 🙂
i thought it was illegal to hunt mushrooms in Ohio State parks ? such as Saltfork, Barkcamp ect ect ……
Young Jack-in-the-Pulpit is one of my favorites to find when mushroom hunting.
