Is there any way to prevent them from dying down after you plant them? Every time I plant one they die. Of cou4se they come back the following season but id like to plant one and not have it die

The sugary sap/nector on the peony buds disappeared. Is that bad ? Does it mean that it will not bloom ?

  3. Anna Hodson on August 20, 2021 at 9:39 pm

I wish we lived somewhere that got cold enough for peonies. I love them but we don’t even get frosts in winter

  4. Brandy Huckabee on August 20, 2021 at 9:41 pm

I have 3. A white one that was here when we moved in, in 2004 and 2 bright pink ones, I planted about 8 years ago. The white one has stopped producing to blooms. It develops buds but then the buds die. We may get 2-3 blooms one that plant.. the pink one produce several blooms. We live in mid-west Texas. Would you have any suggestions?

But what if i want seeds? How do I propagate for more bushes?

  6. Justine Miraldi on August 20, 2021 at 9:43 pm

I love your channel, I get so many ideas from them. Seeing the plant and bulb varieties in a landscape has really upped my game for choosing plants for my garden. I too live in the high desert, Denver can be a bit of a challenge. Hot and dry with brutal hot sun in the summer, loads of snow and cold dry winters, I have killed so many plants. Hearing your experience has helped so much. Thank you from the roots of my gardening heart.

I don’t have plant tone but have Holly tone can I use this on my peonies?

  8. Marian Graham on August 20, 2021 at 9:46 pm

Any idea why a peony that is described as being fragrant isn’t once it finally blooms from bare root?

This was so helpful as I planted a peony 2 weeks ago in my backyard, not sure how much of sun it is getting at the moment. I think I may plant more next year in the front of the house as I believe it will get more sun and thrive better.

  26. Rainmaker Amadeus on August 20, 2021 at 10:05 pm

Peony are toxic to pets. Poison. Dogs or cats ingesting large amounts the paeonol toxin in peony flowers, seeds, roots, bark or leaves may experience mild irritation of their oral tissues, vomiting, diarrhea and depression. Horses suffer gastroenteritis, or inflammation of the digestive tract. Because it’s nearly impossible for them to vomit, peony poisoning in horses can be much more serious than it is in pets.

Hi Laura, how is your Blue Chiffon Rose of Sharon doing now? I just planted mine this spring – 3 of them but 2 aren’t getting enough sun. Can I transplant to a sunnier spot after they’ve been in the ground for only a month?

  34. Girose W. on August 20, 2021 at 10:13 pm

Hey im new in your channel and just want to say thanks for sharing this! Your garden and flowers are really pretty. I have a question, i have a potted shirley temple peony. They are blooming and healthy. Can you show me how i should prune this? Not sure how to do it and a bit worries because its my first peony plant. I do love it in a pot so I may keep it there for a while. It is placed where its getting full sunlight in the am and shade in the afternoon. I live in the south so it’s getting warmer here now too. Hope you can teach me about this pretty plant. Thanks in advance!

  35. Robert J on August 20, 2021 at 10:13 pm

I grew two peonies from root last year and they flowered. One huge pale pink flower on each they looked amazing. Even if they didn’t flower I think their leaves and stems look nice on their own too.

  36. Marco St. Fleur on August 20, 2021 at 10:13 pm

  41. MartyisGreat2020 on August 20, 2021 at 10:20 pm

Hi, it was mentioned that the peonies are left outside in winter, may I know how cold it gets where you live? I live in Toronto and it goes to -30C/-22F. Would they survive and grow back next Spring? Thanks! (I don’t know whether I should dig up the bulbs or leave them in the ground)

  42. Selfi O’Path on August 20, 2021 at 10:23 pm

8:13 Ants are aerating the soil, eating the eggs of pests and weed seeds. They don’t harm any ornamental plants. I have a colony of ants permanently residing in one of my boxwood planters. Boxwood is thriving. Ants are also responsible for spreading a third of all seeds on the planet. Without them, we’d have no biodiversity.

  45. Clare Friend on August 20, 2021 at 10:33 pm

I transplanted a peony 2years ago and it hasn’t bloomed. It is a herbaceous peony. I was told that I probably planted it too deep is there a way to correct this if true? I too realize this a a year old but can you give an update during your Q&A?

  46. Carrie Smith on August 20, 2021 at 10:34 pm

A friend gave me one of her plants that she says never bloomed for her… it’s been 2 years and same here, it’s never bloomed for me either 🙁
Lots of sun and leaves are always nice and full… what do you think it needs to bloom?
